Coffee with Larry, Today is Veterans’ Day, Some thoughts on Harrison Dillard, 100m, 110m gold, 92nd Infantry Division

This is my every day chat with #RunBlogRun viewers and observe followers on all issues observe & subject!

This is Coffee with Larry for Saturday, November 11, 2023.

Coffee with Larry is our close to every day podcst from
RunBlogRun.

Our subjects:

1. This is Veterans Day, established in 1918, because the eleventh day of the eleventh month on the eleventh hour that WW1 ended (1918). Each 12 months, we honor the Veterans amongst us who’ve fought to protect our freedoms.
2. Many nice athletes amongst our veterans. Harrison Dillard, 110m hurdles, Charles Paddock, 100m /200m, Willie Davenport, 110m hurdles, Louis Zamperini, 5000m,

Mal Whitfield gained gold at 800m and 4x400m in London in 1948. In WW@, he was a tail gunner for the Tuskegee Airmen, photograph by Wikipedia Commons.

3. Those who stay in Doha, Qatar, can do a memorial run for John Nuttall, who handed away earlier this week, at 5 pm
at 5-6 Park on Sunday, Nov 12.

JOhn 2
Memorial notice for John Nuttall from Liz McCoglan Nuttall.

4. Went to Aspire Academy on a number of of my visits to Doha DL every May, attending to see John Nuttall.
5. Good luck to the Los Altos High group and Bellarmine groups at CCS immediately at Crystal Springs.
6. NCAA regionals yesterday and immediately will likely be watching to see who will go to NCAA Champs subsequent weekend.

7. Met Harrison Dillard in 2012 on the IAAF Centenary in Barcelona. It was superb. To see Harrison with Renaldo Nehemiah, Aries Merritt, and I imagine Allen Johnson was fairly extraordinary. I’m looking for footage! Harrison carried himself with a lot dignity. The solely man to win the 100m and 110m hurdles died on November 15, 2019, on the time, the oldest Living US Olympian. Harrison served in WW2 with the 92nd Infantry, the ONLY All African American division on the entrance strains. Harrison fought in Italy, a complete shit present, as a part of the Fifth Army. I recall Harrison dressed to the “nines” in an ideal swimsuit in Barcelona. What an incredible man!

8. One ultimate thought immediately. It breaks my coronary heart that I’ve to write down about confusion and battle with the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon. The time (early)ought to have been determined previous to the announcement. The complete course of makes USATF and USOPC look lower than skilled to the worldwide advertising and marketing world, and as each are combating for each greenback on the market with NBA, MLB, and MLS, this type of state of affairs, which occurs practically each time, must be corrected. Hopefully, now that the USATF Board has signed Max Siegel to 5 extra years, they will now go on and get issues like this completed, so journalists can write concerning the enjoyable stuff coming in Orlando.
