Key senators propose using ‘site-neutral’ pay to boost rural hospitals


WASHINGTON — The hospital trade has pushed again towards Medicare cost reforms for years, arguing that the insurance policies would financially damage rural hospitals. 

Two key senators on Friday launched a plan to get round that challenge by reinvesting a number of the cash saved from cost reforms to assist rural and safety-net hospitals. Hospitals that maintain offering companies like trauma facilities, labor and supply models, and burn models would get monetary bonuses, too. 

The reforms, known as “site-neutral” funds, would equalize Medicare funds for some companies offered at hospital outpatient departments with what this system pays doctor workplaces for a similar companies.
